STL Cake Pops is Making Frenchtown a Little Sweeter
Baking up an endless supply of treats for the community, STL Cake Pops is a Frenchtown gem located at 198 Tecumseh Street. Their specialty– creating custom and character cake pops.
STL Cake Pops is not your traditional bakery. They focus on creating custom orders for weddings, corporate parties, gifts and other events. They also host public and private baking workshops, field trips and fundraisers for nonprofit organizations.
The Start of a Sweet Sensation
The owner of STL Cake Pops, Rachel Sarino found her ambition to own her own business when she was young. At only 7 years old, she became an entrepreneur, developing a small business creating custom cards.
“I even had employees,” Sarino explained. “I had my little classmates who were creative making cards so I had more cards to sell.”
Since then, she has opened two other businesses. In 2009, she opened a shop called A Cat in a Basket selling gift baskets. Sarino included her now-famous cake pops in those baskets.
“[The cake pops] kind of took over the business as in people were requesting more cake pops than they were gift baskets,” Sarino said.
Due to the demand, Sarino rebranded herself in 2014 as a bakery and renamed her business STL Cake Pops. The rebrand was a huge success and the business took off. Her business went from referrals from friends and family to people she did not know personally placing orders.
Becoming Part of the Frenchtown Community
As a resident close to St. Charles, Sarino knew she wanted to build her business right by home and needed to expand into a new space with all of her new customers. With some luck, she discovered her current building in Frenchtown, complete with an industrial kitchen, and she was soon welcomed by the community.
“I have customers from all over the St. Louis area who come here, so I needed it to be very accessible,” Sarino explained.
Check Out STL Cake Pops for Yourself
The ovens are usually running at the main store/bakery, but the hours are limited due to prep time needed for custom orders. When you need your cake pop fix, you can get STL Cake Pops in a few different ways:
- Purchase a ready-to-eat treat at Katy Trail Collections at 424 South Main Street.
- Book a private workshop. A great date night idea!
- Attend a public workshop advertised on their Facebook Page.
- Schedule a field trip. Perfect for girl scout troops, home school trips and any group looking to learn about entrepreneurship.
- Have STL Cake Pops cater your next event.
Sarino plans to continue to stay local to St. Charles and create custom cake pop orders.
“I always say that everybody’s going to get cake pops as long as I love doing it,” Sarino said, “and that’s the nature of small business.”
