Receive a Free STL Cake Pop with Food Donation
Beginning Wednesday, June 19, STL Cake Pops will be collecting non perishable and unexpired food products in return for a free, original cake pop.
All of the products collected will be donated straight to the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery who sent out a Facebook post on June 14 showing how empty their pantries are and expressing concern with getting kids in the crisis nursery the meals they need.
Saint Louis Crisis Nursery
The SLCN is an independent, not-for-profit organization devoted to providing a short-term, emergency shelter to children who suffer from neglect and abuse in the St. Louis area. The average child admitted into the SLCN facility stays for two to three days with 24-hour care. During this time, that child will receive three well-balanced meals and three snacks each day. With an influx in children during the summer months and near empty pantries, the service of three meals and snacks each day is becoming harder to accommodate.
A Helping Hand
After the SLCN posted about their food shortage, Rachel Sarino, owner of STL Cake Pops, heard about the problem from a friend. In the past, Sarino has helped out with SLCN on multiple occasions from donating cake pops to volunteering her own time in their shelters. She took it upon herself to make a difference after seeing the pantries at SLCN and set up the food drive within two days.
“Those images really hit home,” Sarino explained. “Those kids need to eat.”
On June 18, Sarino announced she was going to give back to the SLCN by holding her own food drive. In return, anyone who drops off a donation during business hours will receive a free, original cake pop. If you wish to donate, but can not make it during store hours, you can utilize the drop-off bin on the front porch.
“I just have a lot of respect for what they do because it’s not easy,” Sarino said.
All donations are appreciated, but the most needed items include:
They are also in need of boys (gently used or new) summer clothes 2T to 10/12.
STL Cake Pops is located at 198 Tecumseh Street, St Charles, MO 63301 and items will be collected until June 29.
